Our Certifications

Trust and relationships are built by the little things.

At Merle Toys, quality, responsibility, and proven safety are at the heart of everything we do—from the very beginning. Many of our certifications aren’t mandatory; they’re a conscious choice we’ve made. For us, the safety of the very youngest is what matters most, which is why we’re happy to go the extra mile.

What this means: independent testing bodies, transparent supply chains, and natural materials help ensure our products are truly safe for your baby—from every angle.

Sustainable Merle Toys products: “Naturally & certified from the start” with GOTS, OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, FSC, and “spiel gut” quality seals

GOTS – Global Organic Textile Standard

Merle Toys baby blankets are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton.

Our baby blankets are GOTS certified. You can easily recognize this by the green T-shirt label. The seal stands for textiles made from organic natural fibers and for a manufacturing process that’s handled responsibly—never “somehow,” but with clear, strict standards. GOTS is one of the most rigorous and internationally recognized standards worldwide.

From cultivation and processing to fair working conditions, strict requirements apply across the entire supply chain and are monitored by independent bodies. This ensures that not only our product is right, but everything around it, too.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 seal – textiles tested for harmful substances

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is a quality seal that gives you the reassurance that textile products meet strict health standards. Textiles are tested for around 100 harmful substances, such as heavy metals, pesticides, formaldehyde, and other chemicals. And it’s not just the fabric that’s tested—all components are included: sewing threads, buttons, and accessories as well.

The testing criteria follow the latest scientific findings and often go beyond legal requirements—with particularly strict limit values. Because this matters so much to us, all of our baby textile products are OEKO-TEX® certified.

“spiel gut” Seal

“spiel gut” seal – award-winning children’s toy

Many of our products carry the “spiel gut” seal, recognizable by the orange badge. Here, toys aren’t only evaluated by experts—they are also tested together with children. Only toys that truly convince in real play situations receive the award. The evaluation includes safety, materials, durability, and whether the toy inspires imagination and creativity.

In the end, only products that are age-appropriate, educationally valuable, safe, sustainable, and built to last receive the “spiel gut” seal.

FSC – Forest Stewardship Council®

FSC® certification – wood from responsibly managed forests (Forest Stewardship Council)

We use only FSC-certified wood for our wooden toys. It’s important to us to know where our materials come from – and to support responsible forest management. The FSC system is regularly audited by independent bodies. It helps ensure that forest management takes nature, people, and future generations into account.

This is how we create wooden toys that last—and that give you peace of mind when you wonder, “Where does it come from?”

For us, the CE marking is the foundation—and at the same time a minimum standard on which we build with further choices for quality and responsibility.

Our Promise

For us, certificates are not a marketing tool—they’re an expression of a quality standard we live every day. We continually test, question, and improve so you can feel confident you’re making a responsible choice for your child. Because to us, sustainability also means creating things that can be used for a long time—while making children’s eyes light up.
